At Total City Church, baptism follows faith—not perfection, preparation, or performance. If you’ve decided to follow Jesus, the Bible says you’re ready to be baptized.

What is Baptism?

Baptism is an important step of obedience that shows others we have personally put our trust in Jesus as our Savior. Jesus was baptized when He was on the earth, and we do this to follow His example (Matthew 3:13-17). When Christians are baptized, they are submerged under water to identify with the death and burial of Jesus and raised out of the water to identify with His resurrection.

We believe that water baptism is a public declaration of three important things: you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are beginning a changed life in Him, and you belong to God's family.

Baptism FAQs

Do I have to be “spiritually mature” or have my life together before getting baptized?
No! In the Bible, baptism isn’t for people who have it all figured out—it’s for people who have decided to follow Jesus.

Baptism doesn’t mean you’re perfect or finished growing. It means you’ve chosen to trust Jesus and take your next step of obedience. Spiritual growth happens after that decision, not before it.
Do I need to take a class or share my testimony before I can be baptized?
No! We believe learning and discipleship are important—but they come after baptism, not before it.

In Scripture, people were baptized immediately after deciding to follow Jesus. They weren’t asked to prove their faith, explain their story publicly, or pass a test. Baptism is a response to faith, not a reward for preparation.

We’ll walk with you as you grow—but we won’t make you wait to obey.
What if I still have doubts or don’t understand everything about faith yet?
That’s okay. Faith doesn’t mean having all the answers—it means choosing to trust Jesus with your next step. If you’re waiting until you understand everything, you’ll be waiting forever.

The people baptized in the New Testament were still learning, still questioning, and still growing. Baptism marks the beginning of that journey, not the end of it.
I was baptized as a baby or before I personally chose to follow Jesus. Should I be baptized again?
Baptism is meant to follow your decision to follow Jesus.

We honor the intentions behind infant baptism or earlier experiences—but in the Bible, baptism always comes after a personal decision of faith.

If you were baptized before you personally chose to follow Jesus, getting baptized now isn’t about doing it “again”—it’s about doing it your way, in response to your own faith.
